3 practical ways to balance your Base Chakra
Your first chakra relates to your worldly connections. It has to do with safety, survival, and security. DeSilver connects the chakra with parts of your body.
Dietary Awareness:
One way to take care of your 1st chakra is to watch out for the food you eat. Cut out junk food and be mindful of your food intake. I have been vegan for five years and my base chakra is still out of sync; remember, just because you are vegan or vegetarian, it does not mean you are out of the woods. French fries are vegan and vegetarian, and so is many junk food. DeSilver writes, "You don't have to diet or bring in any tough regime but pay a little more attention to the foods you eat and where you get them from." (18). So, the point is to ask yourself: What will you eat for breakfast? Where does it come from? And how will it benefit you? Ask yourself these questions before you cook a given meal. This has nothing to do with restriction and everything to do with understanding. You have to appreciate and understand the food you have, meat or veggies.
Gardening and Connecting with the Earth:
Another way to re-center your base chakra is by connecting to the earth and its cycles. Try to focus your interests on the earth. Gardening is a nice and rewarding hobby. It makes you appreciate the seasons more, gives you a sense of awareness of how plants (food!) grows, and gives you an understanding of how this food is beneficial for you aesthetically (it makes your home look good, does it not?) and health-wise, too. Gardening is also a wonderful way to meditate. You can contemplate the Universe as you watch these flowers grow day after day. You get to see them blossom into beautiful flowers.
Exercise:
Finally, exercising will help you balance your root chakra. It gets you to be more aware of your body. You become aware of how the muscles connect, how the bones collaborate, and how you move. You become more conscious of how your body changes as you exercise. Personally, I prefer something like yoga, something that encourages meditation as part of your practice, but you can do anything with consciousness, with focus, with awareness.
The base chakra has to do with your sexuality, with all things physical, with your sense of being. So you need to balance it to lead a more balanced life.
